Description

Redder is better! That's why we are pleased to introduce Kodiak Red 2.0 diervilla (D. × splendens), which replaces the original Kodiak Red, as it offers much brighter, more intense red foliage that holds better through the season. This is as true under poly in production as it is in the landscape, making it a boon for everyone in the supply chain. Yellow flowers appear all summer and appeal to a variety of pollinators, especially native bumblebees.

Soil

Adaptable to any soil, except excessively soggy sites.

Pruning

Blooms on new wood so spring pruning is best. Needs little regular pruning; however, benefits from rejuvenation every 3-5 years.

Uses

Ideal for mass plantings of all types: hedges, foundation, wildlife gardens. Very well suited to filler material in cut flower production.

Growing Tips

Diervilla is one of the most shade tolerant shrubs, however, blooming and foliage color are best with some sun. Vivid fall foliage, particularly in fall, makes it a nice alternative to burning bush.
